Chatterbox: IBEN

Danish native IBEN made the move to the UK in 2012. Having studied in Manchester she started to develop her own sound, inspired by the city and the music she immersed herself in. The debut single ‘Tell Me’ is the kind of pop we like here at PMM – well produced, full of hooks and carried by a great vocal.

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a Danish girl living in Manchester. I’m heavily inspired by 80’s pop music, especially Michael Jackson. But I’m also in love with Bjørk, Kimbra and Highasakite, which I guess is the reason why I like mixing classic 80’s vibes with melodic vocals and lots of harmonies. #thepowerofthevoice

I also love plants and Rupaul’s Drag Race. But who doesn’t? And I don’t take anything too seriously. Except music. Cause “I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit.”

Where did the new single come from?

Tell Me is inspired by one of my friends who is a few years younger than me. She was telling me about this guy who was clearly leading her on, only replying when he felt like it and not really taking an interest in her. (Except when it came to sexy time) She felt like it was her fault and I kind of saw myself in her from when I was 18. Desperately wanting someone to love you. Even if that someone is actually a total asshole.

Is there more content in the pipeline?

Absolutely. I’m releasing another single within the next month.

What’s on the horizon for you?

I’ll be performing at the next Braille event in Manchester in early March so we are currently working on the live show as well as finishing new songs for future releases. It’s an exciting time and as long as I’m moving forward that’s all I can really ask for.
