Rina Mushonga recorded her new single ‘Atalanta’ in South London, with Grammy award winning producer Brett Shaw. You can feel the vibrancy of her new home and her international roots coming through in the track; with brash beats meeting a heavy afro-pop influence. ‘AtalantA’ is the first in a series of singles leading up to Rina’s 2nd studio album release scheduled for Autumn 2017
Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m half Dutch half Zimbabwean and just moved to south London last year from Amsterdam — I live in Peckham now and I’m kinda crushing on this place — is that even possible?
Where did the new single come from?
Atalanta is this character in Greek mythology I read about and her stories struck me — partly because I was frustrated that she kinda gets a crappy deal even though she’s this strong kick ass woman who just wants to do her own thing— this song was my weird way of changing the story I guess — where she just gets to run and hunt and be happy on her own terms without getting messed about.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
Yes, definitely — working hard on a new album set for release end of this year and hopefully push out some more tracks on the way
What’s on the horizon for you?
Settling into London life more and mainly releasing new music and performing more in the UK and wherever they’ll have me really … haha
