CHATTERBOX: MUNDU talks plans, pandemics, podcasts & the importance of self-care

Hey MUNDU, thanks for talking to us. Could you tell us something about yourself that nobody knows?
That’s no problem, thank you for having me. One thing that people probably don’t know about me is that I love to cook. Like… REALLY love to cook! If I hadn’t fallen in love with experimenting with music at such a young age, I most likely would be in a kitchen somewhere trying to make unheard of recipes.


What influences have gone into your sound recently?
I’ve been listening to a lot of music recently but I’ve mostly been inspired by the state of the world, podcasts that I’ve listened to, long conversations; stuff like that. I think this has been a year where I’ve had to do a lot of listening and growing as opposed to being really vocal and expressive. Years like this are important, I think, especially for my creative outlets.


What are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m starting to take all of those influences and gradually see how they manifest musically. I’m really taking my time to create music that’s reflective of my growth and I’m absolutely loving it. A clear example of that is my new single, ‘Brag & Boast’. After having loads of conversations with people around me and seeing what people say online about this year, it’s clear to me that we’re all simultaneously proud of ourselves for making it through this year and also are looking for an escape from this year. For me, ‘Brag & Boast’ was the perfect opportunity for people to have that escape whilst also celebrating their wins.
 

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

I’m looking to continue creating music that’s honest to me as a person and musician, and I’m also really excited for everyone to hear my new release! I think we all need a song like this, especially in this time, and I take even more pride in the fact that it came organically so I’ll be focusing on that for the next few months.


Any top tips for getting through this difficult time?

The main thing I would say is to try and stay present as much as you can. Try to always be aware of how you’re feeling in every sense and try to understand yourself more. I think we are all going through a hard time because of a lot of global events right now, and the thing that has helped me the most is just being aware of myself, what I take in and what I let out.
