Nashville-grown artist Jessie Early is proving her boundless potential with the release of ‘Heart’, her new single. Alt-pop with a razor sharp focus on well crafted melodies, Early’s music is built upon her talents as a songwriter. We had a chat with the emerging songstress and dug a little deeper.
Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
Well, I’m pretty much a Nashville native. My parents are both songwriters and moved to Nashville from Portland in the 90s in the heyday of country music. I grew up sleeping on those big sound canceling panels in studios while my parents were working. Our house was always filled with inspiring music and musicians, and I feel really thankful to have that as such a big part of my life.
Naturally, I suppose, I married a drummer. So, that’s been really fun to get to create together. Mostly, Aaron and I are just your average dog parents and we eat a lot of tacos.
Where did the new single come from?
A few years ago, I was playing shows here and there, but was feeling really unfulfilled. I decided to just take a break and just write for a few years. This song was the first song that came out of that break, so it feels really good to have something to show for myself.
I wrote “Heart” sitting on my bed one night playing my mom’s classical guitar from Jr. High (funny part being, I don’t even really play guitar). We decided to put it on the EP knowing that it had a lot of potential, but it was more frustrating than anything else. After so much frustration, I woke up one morning with the beat in my head–I was like, Aaron!! this is it! After that, it just came together that day in the studio.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
Yes yes yes. 2 more singles coming your way over the next 2 months, then EP at the end of March. Oh, and some videos!
What’s on the horizon for you?
Besides the dog park and more tacos…a lot more music. Maybe I’ll even start playing a few shows again–who’s to say? Aside from my stuff, at the moment, I’m writing a lot for film/TV, and I’m having a lot of fun with that.
Bonus, Nashville is really fun right now–there’s so much amazing music, art, coffee, food, culture…it’s just a great time to be here. Mostly, we’re just enjoying being in the middle of it all.
