Maltese-born, London-based duo Berne have released their first track for 2020; electro, alt-pop tune ‘To The Lions’. Deborah Borg Brincat and Gianluca Pulvirenti make up this powerful pair and they deliver a moving environmental message through celestial, ethereal vocals and reverb-laden guitar, all polished off with sparkling, cosmic production.
The duo often touch upon inconsistencies in society and are vocal advocates for our planet, creating wistful, abstract lyrics that help paint vivid pictures. A pop song with some real substance, these two are paving the way for other artists to cover similar topics within their songwriting.
Together they have experimented and unearthed a musical landscape of their very own, utilising vivid sound layers in which to share their values and ideals with the world.
“It was a light-bulb moment for us when we realised we can combine both
our life passions: music and care for the environment, and this song is a testimony to
that. ‘To The Lions’ urges people to reflect on the repercussions of their food choices, inspired by Jonathan Safran Foer’s book ‘Eating Animals’ ” – Berne.
