By this point, we’ve got well-accustomed to Zack Morris’ emotionally intelligent and insightful songwriting, having previously been captivated by singles ‘Good Enough’ and ‘Let Her Go’. Now, the rising Floridian artist is back to once again pull at our heartstrings with his newest release ‘Insomniac’. This time, Nashville folk-pop musician Caleb Hearn also joins the project, who here matches Zack’s penchant for heartfelt vocals and reflective performance. The track itself deals with those thoughts that keep you awake at night, particularly after a heartbreak.

Over the sincere tones of acoustic guitar strums and a propulsive beat, we’re introduced to this unfolding narrative of lost love and regret, with early lyrics, “put away every piece of you, piece of you, I do, gasoline on the fire makes it burn away, everything we knew.” Yet for all these good intentions to sever that past connection, it’s clearly not so easy to do so in practice. Soon enough, the track bursts into a kinetically-charged production with fuzzed-out guitars and intricate percussive elements, while Zack pores over what was said, what they did and all the mistakes made. Throughout ‘Insomniac’, Zack and Caleb’s chemistry is apparent, giving us not only one but two exciting new voices on the pop scene to keep tabs on in coming months.
