In the ancient world, purple was originally the colour reserved for the imperial families of Rome, Persia and Egypt and while it’s not longer elitist, there’s still something special to be had to the red-meets-blue hue. Our Purple Pop selection showcases the most luxurious, beautiful and unmissable pop music finds for our ears to yours.
We’re starting off our Purple Pop playlist with a super unique treat from Swedish-Iranian producer, songwriter, and artist Natali Noor. Next up we’ve got a super sweet collaboration between two Nashville-based artists Drew Schueler and Kiki Halliday. The contemporarily produced ‘Ruins’ is sensitively handles the theme of holding onto a relationship past the breaking point and the emotional toll that can take on all involved. While seated in classic pop songwriting, the track is still ultra-modern and perfect for today’s listeners.

‘Girl, I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend’ is the gorgeous and feather-light single from Philadelphia-born, Los Angeles0based pop artist Tessa Kaye. As a way to bring better representation for her own queer identity, the songwriter flips the script on a young love tale and portrays one between two women. The sweetness of this story is reflected in the lilting melodies, simple beat pattern and sincere lyrics.

It’s summer here in the Northern hemisphere so that means festivals, roadtrips and boppy summer anthems that we can to play over and over again. Summarising the feel-good zeitgeist is ‘Summer ’22’, a cheery collaboration between UK-based Scott the Pisces and American BINX, who worked on this remotely from their bedrooms on either side of the Atlantic ocean.

Wrapping up our pop round-up this week is the especially impressive and fun performance from singer-songwriter and pianist Jordan Bradley with ‘Hold On Me’. The video shows Bradley in his comfort zone in front of the piano as he expresses that loved-up, morning-after feeling so readily connected with the bravery of youth. There’s not enough good piano pop out there, so this one is really a delight to find.
