Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a self-taught producer/singer/songwriter based in NYC. I grew up in Miami and went to school for TV/film production at the University of Florida. I originally started off pre-med there but the idea of music kept tugging at me. It was something that I was so passionate about but I wasn’t sure how to get started. I started to mess around with producing music and writing at that time but it wasn’t something I did consistently. I graduated a year early to move to the city. I arrived here just shy of 21 with my guitar, no job, and a very limited amount of savings. That was all I had but I knew I’d figure it out. Two years later, after writing/producing on the train, in my bedroom and on plane rides back home, I’ve completed my first EP, Brilliant.
Where did the new single come from?
I wrote this song last year early in the fall. I held off on releasing back then because I took a hiatus from producing and writing to solely focus on improving my vocals. I took a class online with Berklee and had a full-time job with a commute, so I rarely had a moment to spare. After about 6 months, I jumped back into producing and writing. After all that time away, my overall sound had evolved along with my voice. This track is meant to represent the alter-ego we all strive to have when we’re comfortable in an intimate setting. I thought there was something nice about exploring that persona and bringing it to life.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
Definitely! This is only the first track of the EP. I’ve decided I want to release each track on its own to give them room to breathe and let each one sink in. The next one, Poison, will be out mid-July. It’s one of the more vulnerable and honest tracks, which is both terrifying and exciting.
What’s on the horizon for you?
I’m now preparing to play shows around the city, including some acoustic sets, and I’m looking into shooting a music video as well. I’m already working on my next project and I’m exploring different styles that I may incorporate into my own sound. I currently make pop music but I take my inspiration from multiple genres. I don’t want to be limited to one sound or style so this next EP is about exploring that while still staying true to my sound.
I’m also interested in writing and producing for other people. It gives me more freedom to explore and create, so I’d like to get into that as well.
