Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
We started Stereo Honey in 2016. Nicky (guitar) and Ben (bass) have known each other since they were kids and Jake’s (drums) dad and my dad go back a long way.
We started out as a three piece with myself on drums and Nicky and Ben on guitar and bass but quickly realised that having a singing drummer wasn’t necessarily the best idea. I just sounded out of breath all the time! So, we roped Jake in on drums and then shut ourselves away for about a year in my student flat writing songs.
Where did the new single come from?
The Student Flat Sessions! We wrote a load of songs in my flat and this one in particular came out of a demo that we’d been working on. I’d been listening to a lot of ‘Echo and the Bunnymen’ and when Nicky played the opening riff out of nowhere it just blew my mind. The lyrics came a bit later. I’d been going through a pretty intense period in my life and felt like writing about it was a good way of processing things. They’re not the most uplifting lyrics but I feel much better having written them down.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
We’ve got another single in the pipeline that we’re really excited about and we’re hoping to release an E.P by the end of the year.
What’s on the horizon for you?
We’re playing a few festival dates over the summer before we jump back into the studio. The next show is July 1st at Community Festival in London which we’re really excited about playing. In October we’re supporting The Naked And Famous at Brixton electric. It’ll be our biggest show yet which we’re all buzzing for.
