Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

Hey! My name is Emmi. I make music. At first I only made it for others but now I make it for me too. I’m obsessed with people and their stories and telling them somehow. I love Shakespeare, a good whiskey and bubblewrap. I’m not so keen on birds. (It’s not personal. I just don’t like flapping. I appreciate them from afar.)

Where did the new single come from?

‘Talk To Me’ came from the brain of my mates Max Farrar, Gabriel Benjamin and I!  We write together a lot in LA and laugh a lot and drink a helluvalot of Starbucks. And this day was no exception.

Max started some chords and I immediately got a feeling of some sort of injustice. The words rolled from there. It started as a song about gossip essentially, people talking about you behind your back and getting you wrong. It’s happened to all of us at some point I think. But then as we wrote I realised it was about so much more than that.

Assumptions spread about a person or indeed a group of people unchecked can be dangerous and result in all kinds of ‘isms’. But if prejudice is, as they say, born of fear of the unknown, it occurred to me there is a fairly obvious solution. Go find out. Ask. There are always three sides to every story and everyone is entitled to tell theirs.

“You should come and talk to me, take a little walk with me…if you really wanna know.”

Is there more content in the pipeline?

So much. So much it hurts. I have three albums worth now. Sometimes I dream of just dropping them all at once. But patience is a virtue. Perhaps. Either way a body of work will happen in 2017 by hook or by crook.

What’s on the horizon for you?

A body of work! More live shows! I’m in rehearsal with my band now. And I have a couple of exciting collaborations on the boil too. I really can’t wait for this year. It’ll be the year of the flood. And if last year is anything to go by, anything is possible really! Come what may.
