Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi, I’m FINLAY (pronounced fin-lee). I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but quickly became a West Coast Convert in my teenage years, (…finally making the move out to Los Angeles at 18). I fell in love with music and on-stage performance after seeing a Broadway rendition of Beauty & the Beast, and have been chasing that moment ever since. In 2012, I was viciously attacked by a shark on a surf trip in the Gulf of Mexico, but beautifully survived. This is my walking grace in life; my survival from the ocean waters is the little magic that tells me I have a purpose each day and presses me onward to create really fun and incredibly unique pop.
Where did the new single come from?
TIDES began in our small apartment studio (I like to call it “Washer/Dryer Studios”…because that’s literally where our washer & dryer’s supposed to go.) My husband and lead producer, Chris, created the backline beat, and shortly after falling in love with the hook, I locked myself in my closet behind all my clothes and didn’t come out until I finished the lyrics. I’ve dreamt of island waters and vibrant coastlines my whole life, and TIDES serves as a sort of fresh and anthemic summer pop beat, giving the overall message that the most important relationships in life are the ones worth fighting for.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
(Nice use of the word pipeline there 😉 Yes! As of 2017, my full-length EP is finished and ready to be released, likely in the coming Summer Season. You can find all the latest news on upcoming releases at: http://www.finlaymusic.com. And be sure to follow me on Instagram for the latest updates and posts.
What’s on the horizon for you?
Oh goodness, a TON. In addition to this release, I have a few upcoming showcases planned in Los Angeles this spring, along with an incredible project in the islands of Hawai’i, where we’ll be shooting the Official Music Video for TIDES, featuring some really innovative media technology. I’m teaming up with a group of Social Influencers on the North Shore to truly capture the spirit of summer. This is downright crazy, but I’ll be co-directing, producing (and mayyybe even surfing in the video?), so it’s bound to be wild.
