Chatterbox: Kylan Road

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

Kylan Road was formed after a loss a loved one. Dave and I (James) had both been making music for years, both as songwriters and gigging musicians. After having given up on making original music, we were both awakened to the brevity of life and the importance to live it fully by the passing of Kylan, our close friends’ first born son. With this second chance at making music, we are doing what we’ve always done: create memorable melodies, soaring riffs and simple lyrics to tell stories that remind us of our humanity. We’ve always loved music. Kylan helped us to remember just how much.

Where did the new single come from?

“Here Now” is really a song about longing for home. While I (James) was away in Detroit for an extended period of time, I felt lost. The only thing I wanted was home, which included SoCal beaches and warm weather, but really meant the people that I felt at home with (friends and family). I (James) wrote the initial idea, took it to Dave, and we fleshed out the rest of the melody and lyrics. We then sat with our good friend and producer, Adrian Alvarado, to imagine what loss sounded like. Dave wrote the string arrangement, and we all crafted a soundscape that we believed encapsulated the message of “Here Now.”

Is there more content in the pipeline?

Yes. We have more original music coming in the next couple of months. We are working hard in the studio to create songs that we love about stories that resonate with us.

What’s on the horizon for you?

We’re now working hard at creating a body of work that we can put out into the world. We also can’t wait to put our live show together and take that on the road!
