Julia hails from Naples in the US. She was one third of ‘Official Outcome’, which garnered her attention from industry folk and punters alike. Her songwriting talents came to the forefront when she decided to go solo, we had a chat with Julia to break down her new single ‘Tell Me’.
Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
Well hey! Music has been a huge part of my life for all that I can remember. Both sides of the family had some kind of musical inclination- my mom was in theatre and my dad had been raised in a musician’s household where his dad was a pro. I initially took interest in drums, then as I got older, my hands got big enough for me to stretch around the neck of a guitar. Singing came last. I never thought I’d call myself a “singer”, I always just played instruments, so now it’s really cool that people seem to like my voice (haha). When I started getting fluent on guitar, I started writing lyrics. I wrote a song called “Tell Me That You Love Me” when I was 10, and it ended up being the first song I got to record and have professionally produced. From there I kept writing, kept singing, kept playing.
Where did the new single come from?
So if you noticed, the name of the new single stems from the song I mentioned previously. “Tell Me” is a more mature rewrite, with the same kind of idea, as “Tell Me That You Love Me”. The new spin contains lyrics that tell what I really want out of future relationships. It’s about pursuing each other, through hard times and easy ones. But most importantly, we need to tell each other that we love each other, and mean it, no matter what.
What other content is in the pipeline?
Hopefully the future holds new opportunities and lots of chances for me to grow. I have been working with Xerxes Bakker (Snoop Dogg, Cee Lo Green, DJ Joshua Walker) on writing and producing songs while developing my voice with Maruja Retana (LA Based Singer-songwriter at Sony/ATV Music Publishing). Shoutout to the both of them! I have some other songs I am working on that I can’t wait for you guys to hear. “5:03am” is almost ready!
What’s on the horizon for you?
I think things can only go up from here. It’s all about perspective and for me, I just have to remember that my life has a plan and purpose that’s far beyond my understanding and that’s kind of what keeps me encouraged and motivated. I’m excited to see what happens in 2017!Hopefully the future holds new opportunities and lots of chances for me to grow.
