With more than 550 million streams and millions of monthly listeners, Braaheim is already one of Scandinavia’s most-loved dance music names. Now, the Norwegian DJ and producer is setting his sights further with an ambitious reimagining of Mory Kanté’s iconic club banger ‘Yeke Yeke’, which seeks to inject fresh energy into a timeless dance-floor favourite. By retaining some of that original spirit of Mory’s Guinean rhythms and addictive grooves, Braaheim shows all due respect to this piece of dance music history, and yet he’s also unafraid to push it into the modern era with his own specialised touches.

Braaheim’s version of ‘Yeke Yeke’ rises to the occasion with a high-energy production, which really drives into the deep end with visceral bass lines while also softening out those top-line beats. The result is a more transcendent listen that runs smoothly between those hedonistic highs through to the stripped-back serenity. One of our favourite sections comes in around the 1:33 minute mark with those echoed 90s beats and rumbling percussion; it’s a moment of relatively quiet reflection that leads up into the final, glorious drop. Ultimately, this is all about celebrating our shared global love for music, movement and togetherness.
