Lexi Lemonade subverts expectations on ‘Midnight Dream’, featuring Virgogh

Following on from memorable single ‘Quake’ that the cyber-soul architect Lexi Lemonade released back in February, the New Jersey artist is back with another scintillating track. As the third release from Lexi’s forthcoming album, ‘Midnight Dream’ continues to raise the already high bar with its genre-blending mix of indie-R&B, cinematic electro-pop and pulsating Jamaican rhythms. By connecting her Caribbean roots to this future-facing composition, Lexi continues to subvert any expectations that listeners could place on her sound. She also re-affirms this Caribbean link by calling on Bronx artist Virgogh who taps into Puerto Rican heritage in an unmissable verse that brings a grounded hip-hop energy to Lexi’s cosmic vision. What’s especially nice is how Virgogh seamlessly slips into Spanish for the final few lines of his guest performance.

Alright, back to the start of the show – Lexi. From the very start of ‘Midnight Dream’, her vocal presence is strong, confident and sensual. It’s somewhat reminiscent of mid 2010s pop-R&B scene with the pairing of her velvety vocal melodies and those shuffling beats. It’s all wrapped up in a constantly moving backdrop, which acts like a gossamer veil of synth warmth over the whole track. The sense of yearning is palpable throughout ‘Midnight Dream’, yet Lexi doesn’t embody a woman who sits on the sidelines, she puts her thoughts and feelings into action. While we don’t quite reach the critical moment in this narrative, what we are left with is a burning desire to hear more. For now, we can only let our imagination run wild as to what Lexi’s upcoming album, AMBER, has in store for us next.

“On Midnight Dream, I approached my artistry with intention—both sonically and culturally. I engineered the record myself, handling the mix and master to achieve a polished yet intimate sound. I also tapped into my Hispanic heritage, transitioning into Spanish in the final bars of my verse. It adds a personal touch and elevates the identity of the record. The track leans into warm, Caribbean-inspired tones, creating a slower, sensual atmosphere that invites listeners into a latenight, emotionally present space.” – Virgogh
