‘Another World’ is a hypnotic house cut from Karin Turesson’s project Sunstroke Rain

Swedish songwriter, composer and musician Karin Turesson has built an impressive career soundtracking Sweden’s film and TV world. Despite all of this success, the Malmö-based artist was still longing for some personal expression which is what led to the new solo project, Sunstroke Rain. Our first introduction to this next chapter is ‘Another World’, an incredibly sophisticated and thoughtful house track made in collaboration with UK producer Mera Bhai. Building on the magnetic energy that the pair displayed in their previous release ‘Life Is Sacred’, this follow-up is a sleek electronic number that knits together 90s dance sensibilities and a futuristic shimmer.

Kicking off with a minimalist foundation, ‘Another World’ gradually draws out this concept of alternative reality through its shifting bass, restrained chords and quirky vocal clips. Karin’s seemingly effortless arrangement wraps us up in its spell, preparing us for the crisp and cool spoken-word verses. Her straight-forward dialogue, in lines like “so much makes you feel alright, but can vanish over the night,” cuts through the bubbling deep house beats. When you put all the pieces together, ‘Another World’ is clearly a reminder to embrace and appreciate the moment.
