Hey Paper Idol would you tell us something about yourself that nobody knows?
I started my first band when I was 14, which included my dad and 3 other friends from school. Our first gig was a battle-of-the-bands at a local dive bar against 12 local metal bands. Our entire set was Red Hot Chili Peppers covers. But we sold the most tickets, so we won. The metal bands were so angry they started physically attacking us and we were escorted out by security.
What influences have gone into your sound recently?
My sound is a synthesis of alternative and electronic, so I love any artists in that space. Clarence Clarity, Beck, Best Frenz come to mind. I’ve also been listening to some minimal piano stuff, like Phillip Glass and Joep Beving. Listening to that stuff is like taking a warm bath after a sweaty concert. I like heavy production and all that, but sometimes you have to cleanse yourself and reset!
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on a film score and another EP. And my sleep schedule.
What are your plans the year ahead?
We have some really fun stuff planned for this year. Putting out tons of music, maybe a couple remixes. My bandmate Adam and I will continue posting ridiculous videos on the internet, as well as play some shows. I see this year as an opportunity to bring new fans into the paper idol universe and find cool ways to collaborate with them.
Any top tips for getting through this difficult time?
Find good people and stick with them (from 6 feet away, of course). Also buy paper idol t-shirts, I heard they’re awesome.
