Chatterbox: Charlotte Clark chats vloggers, Big Red Machine & party playlists.

Hey, thanks for talking to us. Could you tell us something about yourself that nobody knows?

Ooh straight in at the deep end here. Uhh I’m weirdly obsessed with watching youtube vloggers. Like I spend a seriously unhealthy amount of time watching those kinda videos.

What influences have gone into your sound recently?

Over the last couple of years I’ve gotten reaaaally into Justin Vernon’s production. I became a huge fan of Big Red Machine, the project he started with Aaron Dessner from the National. I referenced them a lot when working on this new stuff. Also, I’ve been listening a lot to a Norwegian artist, Emilie Nicolas. Her phrasing and melodies are just so free and soft but then she’s singing over this like huuuuge R&B production and I just love the contrast of it.

What are you currently working on?

I’m finishing up the last little bits on this EP with Odd Martin, and starting to write for the next chapter I guess. The lockdown has been nice for writing as it doesn’t feel like it’s being tailored for anything, I’m just writing what I feel.

What are your plans for this year, has the current state of things affected those?

I’m just riding out this wild corona wave at the moment, as my year kinda lies in the hands of that! The state of things has hugely affected my plans but it has for every single person in the world in different ways, so I feel like we all lose our complaining rights!

Any top tips for getting through this difficult time?

Well, funny you should ask that as I just made a playlist of my top 20 songs to stay indoors to which you can check out on my Spotify page. I say blast out your favourite tunes and have a dance party in the house.
