Chatterbox: Marcos g chats Basketball, EP’s and productivity.

Hey, thanks for talking to us. Could you tell us something about yourself that nobody knows?

Something that nobody knows would be that for the longest time I actually had led myself to believe I had a future in basketball lol. I never played many sports in elementary school, since I was too busy playing the piano, but around middle school I started to really get into basketball. My dad had signed me up into different basketball leagues and I learned pretty quickly and eventually I ended up playing for my high school being the starting point guard my junior and senior year. I had actually thought me being in the NBA would be a thing lmaooo. Thankfully, I snapped out and now I’m doing something completely different but if you told me a few years ago I’d be a singer and not a basketball player I would’ve laughed in your face.

What influences have gone into your sound recently?

Recently, I’ve been listening to a lot of Lauv, Grimes and Bad Bunny lol. Lauv and Grimes are inspiring because they produce and write the majority of their work which is something I admire and hope to do at some point too. Bad Bunny is just that dude, his storytelling and energy is sick, definitely big current influence.

What are you currently working on?

Right now we’re trying to get this second EP up and running. My first EP “Dancefloor” is great but a lot of it is relatively older compared to the release date, for example the EP came out 2020 but title track Dancefloor was written back in 2018. This next EP has a lot of freshness and I feel like it brings my sound to a new level, one I’m excited for people to hear.

What are your plans for this year, has the current state of things affected those?

My plans for this year revolved a lot around travel which sucks. I really wanted to tour at some point, have a lot more live shows which are always great. I wanted to spend more time out in NY and LA and work with some sick people out there, but because of current circumstances pretty much everything is at a halt lol so we’ll see. I’m trying to see the positive and remind myself that once things go back to a new normal, I’ll miss all the time I had to myself and all the family time I’m thankfully getting at the moment. So it’s not too bad!

Any top tips for getting through this difficult time?

Some tips would be take it easy, I think those “be productive” posts are mad annoying. I understand where they’re coming from but it kinda makes those who feel discouraged to work feel even more discouraged. I’d say find a way to be productive in something, but to come up with that on your own. Seeing people on socials doing a lot can make you feel like you’re not doing enough. But I feel like as long as you do enough, according to you, then that’s all that matters. Don’t know if that makes sense lol but it makes sense in my mind.

Total sense & I completely agree. Thanks for sharing your words of wisdom and taking the time to chat to us! You can listen to Marcos’s newest EP here:
