Tell us a bit about yourselves.
We’ve been longtime friends and have been in R&B/Funk bands together. In the last 5 or so years however, we’ve always gravitated to similar styles of music. House, Soulful House, R&B, overall just really funky grooves that made us want to dance. Naturally the three of us would get together and write music that sounded like how we felt. In the last couple of years we’ve wanted to take our songwriting and music production to the next level. We spent a lot of late nights crafting music that eventually no one would hear. But all for the experience of focusing on our craft. In turn we’ve carved out a sound that we believe is right in our wheelhouse. The DNA of the songs really come from what we were all into growing up. A lot of 90’s grooves, the 80’s Minnesota Funk-paired with staying aware of current music trends in production and sound.
Lately we’ve been working a lot with extremely talented individuals rcade and Xan Gray. Working with them has been a blessing because their strengths really round out our musical product. rcade ads the thump, modern sound and production expertise, while Xan Gray adds the emotion and vocal swagger.
Where did the new single come from:
The new single Jerry Curl, is a fun one that we jammed out one night. I had a 80’s New Edition-esque loop going and we just went in. We sat on that beat for a while, and a few months later we met Xan Gray and challenged him to write a something to it. The funny part is ‘Jerry Curl’ had always been our random name to the vocal-less track, but Xan completely ran with it and wrote a melody and lyrics based on that theme. I’d say it worked out pretty well. From there, we linked up with rcade and he put the extra punch and polish on it that we all thought it really needed.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
We’ve written a number of songs with our team of DMGKNTRL + rcade + Gray and we’ve got them lined up after Jerry Curl’s release.
What’s on the horizon for you?
Looking forward, we’re continuing to write more music and ride waves of creativity as they come and go. We’ve been in the studio phase for a while, but also we believe that it’s only part of our game. We love being on stage performing with live instrumentation as well, so we’re spending time rehearsing our new music. Can’t wait for people to hear them live!
