Hey, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a singer/songwriter/pianist from the Nashville area with a love for pop music. My mom started me on piano lessons in first grade and voice lessons in high school. Growing up I was involved in a LOT of musical theater, which furthered my passion for music in general. I started writing my own songs in the fifth grade. My best friend was my “manager” and we would sit and plot my stardom for hours (which of course never got anywhere haha). I started school at Middle Tennessee State University in the fall of ’15, and am currently pursuing a degree in Audio Production. While in school, I’ve written and (lightly) co-produced my own EP, as well as the single Melt. I recently partnered up with a new team and we’re writing lots of new songs for an upcoming project. Aside from music, I love art. Both of my grandfathers are artists, so I guess i caught the art gene. My favorite art medium is oil paint, and I actually paint pet portraits for people in my spare time.
How did the new single come about?
Melt was the first song that I wrote to tracks. My typical song-writing method is to find the chords/melody on the piano and write the lyrics from there. This song was definitely more of a challenge for me because I wasn’t used to writing to pre-made chords/structures. The producers that I worked with had already placed the lines “If love is like fire I can make it burn brighter” in the intro, so I decided to go with the whole “heat” theme for the rest of the song.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
YES! I’m spending the summer and fall writing new songs and developing a new sound for myself. I’ve partnered with new songwriters and producers and am super excited for what we’re working on. It will definitely be different from the sound I have previously released, which is always a little nerve racking as an artist. I’m pouring everything I have into this project though and I can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on.
What’s on the horizon for you?
Good question! I ask myself that everyday (and get asked this question almost every day haha). My goal is to make great music and hopefully earn a living doing it. I’ll be taking a step back from releasing anything for a while so that I can refocus, write better songs, and make a game plan for my music. In the meantime I’ll be performing locally with my band, so come catch a show! Fall show dates will be posted on my website (www.nataliemadigan.com) at the end of the month.
