Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
AVESTRA played bass in a local rock band from Phoenix, while also being the singer/manager of that same band. She started playing piano when she was 5 years old, and has always really had a heavy hand in creating music. She’s currently going to school in Seattle for Mechanical Engineering, and doing a minor in music at the same time.
For me, I’ve been working on music since I was in 6th grade, whether it was playing Cello, starting off in Garageband playing with a Nine Inch Nails track stems, or singing in Choir (before puberty took my voice). I started playing in FL Studio a bit after that, trying to replicate Basshunter and Armin Van Buuren sounds, before I really found the direction I wanted to go in.
Where did the new single come from?
So it started out with a demo I sent to her last July, which was the basis of the song. That was literally the first thing we worked on together, and we spent a good 2-3 months on that track, working heavily on the vocal lines, the top synths, the drum groove, etc. We worked via emails, calls and texts since we’re in different states, so it wasn’t the quickest process!
Then we sat on it for about 2 months, just sharing it with friends and other artists, trying to get some feedback on it. It’s such a weird song, so it was really hard for us to pitch the song to people, since it’s so different from anything either of us has done before. I’ve still never heard a track like this, it’s just so weird to us, but we love it!
Is there more content in the pipeline?
Fuck yeah! We spent so long on this song since we weren’t sure what we wanted to make, but now that we know the direction, we’re working on an EP! We’re working on getting four or five new tracks lined up right now, and we’re working with some other artists as well to try to bring in some new ideas to our own style.
What’s on the horizon for you?
AVESTRA is working a lot on her own tracks, working on her own personal sound and style a lot. It’s a lot more ambient than what we do together, and it’s really melodically pleasing and vocal-centric. She’s going to be getting more into live performance as well, in order to spread her sound and style more.
I’m working a lot on the EP with AVESTRA of course, trying to get the sound we want perfect! On top of that, I’ve been working with labels on a few tracks that are more club focused for sure; doing some collaborations with other house artists, things of that nature. I’m working on getting into some music libraries for films/TV as well, and hopefully starting a streaming production channel soon!
