Chatterbox: Nate Lesco

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

My legal name is Matthew Guerrero, but I am better known by my stage name Nate Lesco. I made the stage name because I think my legal name is way too common, I know way too many “Matthews”. I’ve also wanted the name “Nate” ever since I was a kid. I am 19 years old, and I am from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I really just want to make things for the rest of my life, that’s the dream.

Where did the new single come from?

“Keep Me” is about the ongoing relationship that occurs between my ambitions and my perceptions about reality. I think a lot of people are under the impression that the song is about an ex-girlfriend, but it isn’t. I wrote the song with the intention of expressing an ongoing battle that goes on within my own mind. I’ve always had big goals and ambitions, and a lot of it is to my own detriment.

The part of me that wants to achieve success in the pursuit of my dreams is put up against the part of me that believes that I can’t do it. I feel like having realistic goals would make my life and everything in it so much easier, but it isn’t who I am. It’s really a bittersweet feeling, but I can’t help but dream for bigger things that seem impossible reach for. This song is about me against myself. My dreams against my perceptions about reality. It’s about what I want to do and what I think I can’t do. I’m still trying to figure it out.

Is there more content in the pipeline?

Definitely, the things that I want to do are definitely going to surprise people. Well I hope they do at least. I want to do a lot of things, the plans reach out really far. It started with music, but I feel like it’s going to branch out to so much more than just that. I just like making things, I don’t think it’s going to restricted to just one specific medium. It’s going to be really interesting to see how things fold out.

What’s on the horizon for you?

Right now there is a lot going on. I’m working on something I think is going to influence a lot of people. I don’t want to get into it too much but it’s something that really means a lot to me. One big thing I plan on doing is getting people to start taking this city seriously when it comes to culture and creativity. There is so much going on in this city, people doing amazing things and the world needs to see it happening. I’m gonna open those doors for us. We need to step our game up.
