Chatterbox: Ninajirachi

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

Hey, I’m a high school student from a regional, coastal area near Sydney, in Australia. In my spare time I like making things, particularly songs – I’ve been doing this for a few years now. I also love Vegemite, the colour blue, and my cat, Phina.

Where did the new single come from?

My friend, Freya, and I hung out one day in the school holidays and we recorded a vocal verse at my house. She killed it, and I was so excited about making a song around her vocal that I wrote the entire instrumental for it in a day or two. She came over again the next week to record another vocal verse and I finished producing the track within that week. I think it came together so quickly because I’ve never worked with a vocal like Freya’s before, so I’ve been super enthusiastic about it. She’s amazing, working with somebody that I have a friendship with outside of the collaboration has been really enjoyable.
Is there more content in the pipeline?

At the moment I struggle to find big chunks of time in which I can really get stuck into making music, because I’m currently completing my last year of school and the pressure is really on for me to do well. In saying this, I do have a few songs that I’m really looking forward to sharing with people throughout this year and I’m creating as much as possible in between assignments and exams.

What’s on the horizon for you?

I really like to take things as they come. Creative inspiration comes in waves for me, and it’s hard to predict when I’ll be super motivated to make music and when I’ll hit a low in terms of musical inspiration. This year, I’m just hoping to do my best in my studies whilst maintaining a steady musical output.
