Chatterbox: Kraak & Smaak

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi, I’m Wim of Dutch producers, DJ and live band trio Kraak & Smaak here. We’ve been dropping singles, remixes and albums since, well, a long time. People may know us from the Squeeze Me single with Ben Westbeech a while ago, but over the years also worked with peepz such as Mayer Hawthorne, Romanthony and Lee Fields to name a few. Our newest album Juicy Fruit features collabs with Cleopold, Parcels, ALXNDR London and Eric Biddines. And oh yes, we also started our own label, Boogie Angst – named after our sophomore album – featuring upcoming acts such as Moods, Meeka Kates, Feiertag, Snacks and Saux.

Where did the new single come from?

We picked up the Parcels guys from Soundcloud – they were just starting to drop music on there and one way or the other we managed to browse into them, so to speak. We dug their vibe – that late 70s ‘yacht-rocky’ style and one thing led to another. The other track on this double single features Meeka Kates, a smooth singer from NY currently residing in Amsterdam here, signed on our own label for solo work as well. Think Chet Baker 21st Century style 🙂 Plus there are some excellent remixes on board with French star-to-be Fhin, Richard Dorfmeister of K&D and Tosca fame, Spanish producer Memeb and Blue Hotel.

Is there more content in the pipeline?

Yup, for May the Juicy Fruit remix album is planned, featuring a selection of current remixes and a number of new ones – keep your ears open for the new names! And besides that it’s also touring time with a live tour through the US in May and various DJ and live shows in the UK, Spain, Hungary, Turkey and Austria.

What’s on the horizon for you?

We have already started to work on new single material for after the album has run its course, with the focus for the time being on the more clubby, dancefloor side of Kraak & Smaak. Plus we have dived into making remixes again and we’ll also try and develop our label Boogie Angst further this year, signing new acts and releasing new material. The biggie in this regard will be Moods’ first full artist album, definitely destined to make some serious international waves!
