Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m Toby I’m singer-songwriter from London, really got back into music towards the end of my final year at uni in Nottingham, where I won the chance to play at Fred Perry’s Dot to Dot festival. That spurred me on to pursue music when I graduated last summer. Since moving back to London I’ve been writing and taking occasional trips back up to my friends bedroom studio in Nottingham where I’ve recorded all of my stuff. I’m also a mean cook!

How did the new single come about?

Most (if not all) of my music is inspired by the stuff around me: friends, family, my love life (or lack of hahaha) and politics etc. So ‘Hazy Sunday‘ is about being in my flat at university on a Sunday, with all of my mates crammed in to a 2 person flat, feeling the effects of the nights before, in a ‘haze’. We’d just drink, eat (Deliveroo because nobody was cooking), smoke and watch TV, either David Attenborough or Disney. It was a magical place! The track was recorded on one of those trips to my mates bedroom, that sounds seedy, but it was just music.

Is there more content on the horizon?

So this track is actually part 2 of the ‘BOY LOVE’ tape (https://soundcloud.com/tobydotmusic/sets/boy-love-tape) i put out, ‘B-OY LO-VE’ being the first. There’s a third and final part on its way too, which is called ‘Don’t Be Gay’. I’m currently just working on a video for it which should be ready by the end of the month. Following that I’ve got another 3 track tape on its way too. So I suppose the short answer is ‘Yes, LOTS!” haha

What’s on the horizon for you?

I’m currently in the process of booking gigs, working with a band to play those gigs, so lots of rehearsing. Playing some London gigs over the next couple of months, The Half Moon in Putney, on the 27th of this month, then I’m playing at 229 and the O2 Academy in Islington in April, to name some. Also hopefully gonna have a couple of festival slots too. I’ve entered Glasto’s emerging acts competition too, so see how that goes. Other than that keep writing, recording and making more music.
