Chatterbox: Erva Carter

Erva Carter oozes soul, she captures the essence of classic R&B music whilst keeping the arrangement and production of her tracks fresh. The Houston based songwriter has just released her new single ‘WWD’. It’s both brash and smooth in equal measure, with enough melodic nous to stay in your brain all week.

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

I’ve been singing practically my whole life, I started in church singing solos, but it wasn’t til I was around the age of 22 I was ready to turn music into a career. I went through a phase of trying to be what others wanted me to be or what I thought was more realistic as far as career choices.

Eventually, that all faded out and I realized that I should follow my heart instead of the noise around me. Since then, I’ve redefined myself to be who I am now which I like to call it a “celestial lioness goddess”, being that I love all things galactic, powerful & sensual. Sounds strange I’m sure, but what’s common in the creative realm anyway?

Where did the new single come from?

I wrote “WWD” about a year ago. It was inspired by a craving for a deeper love along with an awareness of the fragility of life.

What other content is in the pipeline?

I have two other singles that are available for listening, “Magic”(which you all covered in the past) and “Not Here”. Both are available on Sound Cloud as well as most other major music retailers and streaming services.

What’s on the horizon for you?

I am releasing another song in mid-February as well as preparing for a few upcoming shows in the near future. My main goal for 2017 is to make a name for myself in Houston and then to expand throughout Texas as well as other states.
