Asia Ward’s ‘heartstrings (voice memo)’ is a raw & intimate R&B single

With ‘heartstrings (voice memo)’, Asia Ward solidifies her place as a rising force in the independent music scene, leaving listeners eagerly anticipating the next stop on her musical journey. The beauty of ‘heartstrings’ lies in its simplicity—a voice memo that captures the essence of a moment, with the ambient noise of the world serving as a backdrop. Asia Ward’s voice becomes a comforting lullaby, weaving seamlessly with the acoustic chords, creating an atmosphere that transcends the boundaries of a recording.

In the artist’s own words, the song emerged organically during a spontaneous session on her couch. It speaks to the realization of a relationship nearing its end, yet grappling with the persistent allure that clouds judgment when face to face. The honesty in Asia Ward’s lyricism, paired with her emotive delivery, elevates ‘heartstrings’ to a poignant reflection on the complexities of love.

Asia Ward’s signature blend of bedroom indie, electronic elements, and introspective R&B shines through, drawing inspiration from the likes of Lizzy McAlpine, Hailey Knox, and SZA. Her commitment to connecting with fans as if they were close friends adds a personal touch to her artistic journey, and each release unveils another chapter of her life on the road.

“This is a song that kinda just fell out of me. I was sitting on my couch with a guitar playing random chords and the majority of the melody and lyrics came within 30 minutes. At first I didn’t understand where the song came from but after talking with my therapist that week, it made sense. ‘heartstrings’ is about realizing when a relationship is at the end of its rope, but every time you’re face to face with them you forget why.”
