So many of the artists that we cover here at Purple Melon get their start in music by busking on the streets of their hometowns and cities, and so when we were asked to show some support to the upcoming International Busking Day at London’s Wembley Park on July 16th, our answer was an instant yes!
This incredible event, which is being presented by Busk in London and is supported by the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, will feature big music names performing alongside rising artists and grassroots acts. This confluence of the global and the local is exactly what makes this day one to mark in your calendar.
Another reason is that for one day only, you’ll have the chance to see over 120 acts perform live, including British country duo The Shires, folk singer-songwriter Seth Lakeman, electric string quartet Stringfever, Malawian busker Gasper Nali, and even Swedish street magician Charlie Caper. Like that last name hints, there’s no only music on offer, but a wide range of entertainment including dance and circus acts, and all for the low, low price of… nothing! Yep, that’s right, it’s a freebie.

Do support buskers – however you can – when you see them out and about.” – KT Tunstall is a Busk in London Ambassador
