Montreal-based half-Japanese and half-French Universal Music Canada signee Soran has built a new vision for his unique brand of Lo-fi electro pop and contemporary R&B. Uplifted with inter-dimensional synths and soundscapes he paints these perfectly produced beats with infectious hooks and authentic, intimate songwriting.
Recent single ‘Way Up’ is the perfect example of Sorans talented artistry. Sharing his struggles and baring his soul in this latest honest and confessional offering, ‘Way Up’ stands as a courageous and moving beacon of hope. It represents a lifeline for those who may also be grieving, which is not often highlighted in todays music and offers a unique window into Sorans world. It showcases the sadness one feels when loosing a loved one whilst simultaneously emanating with positivity and encouragement as Soran details, almost like a prayer, “I swear I’ll keep my head way up. I’ll keep on trying.”
Overflowing with spacey electronics and buttery soft vocals Soran’s ‘Way Up’ is an extra special ode to his late mother, all wrapped up in a seriously catchy pop bop, one we are privileged to be able to enjoy.
“‘Way Up’ is written by a future me talking to a present me about how I got over the pain of losing a loved one. It’s ironic, because I’m doing all of the things that she wanted me to do now, but she’s gone. It sounds like me, yet so much of it is my mom. I find a way to celebrate her in every song.” – Soran
