Persian-Canadian singer Tara Jam returns today with the release of her highly anticipated sophomore single, ‘Invade My Space’. The intense and dazzling new jam from Tara follows on from the success of her debut single, ‘Motion Sickness‘ which has since gained over 333,000 streams on Spotify alone.

Tara Jam fulfills the prophecy of her name, with Tara meaning ‘star’, as she emanates the light of the soul. She channels this light through her blend of artistry as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, director, and photographer and highlights her skills in the beautiful artwork for this single that she shot and creatively directed herself. 

Coming into her own as one to watch in the indie music scene, Tara Jam’s ‘Invade My Space’ is an intoxifying and hazy alternative, indie-pop number made up of electronic drum beats, pop fuelled melodies and a sprinkle of subtle trap elements. The lyrics are sincere and candid and some that many of us will relate to especially during these times of international lockdowns and people being cooped up indoors together.

Speaking on her latest single, Tara Jam explains:

“INVADE MY SPACE” is a song about emotional, physical, and psychological space needed from oneself or another figure—I want it to be open to interpretation. I wrote this song while crammed at the back of a van in rural Nepal on my way to Kathmandu city from The Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children (HRDC) (I highly recommend checking out the inspiring work they do). On that trip, I was able to find space in the hollowness of the intermountain basins and valleys from the swarming streets of the densely populated capital. This range of landscape and environment allowed me to discover that even in the most congested of cities, I can make room to breathe. I had the privilege of taking a break from the overwhelming hustle and bustle and of being reminded of the luxury and significance of protecting your energetic field.”

The now Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, director and photographer is a woman of many talents and ‘Invade My Space’ & the accompanying music video are a perfect demonstration of Tara’s unique and varied skills at work. Tara Jam is definitely one to watch.
