Chatterbox: Cody chats high school dramas, new songs and getting creative.

Hey thanks for taking the time to talk to us today, Could you tell us something about yourself that nobody knows?

When I was in first year at high school a pile of tables fell on to my foot in Drama class. I tried to act tough and laughed it off in front of the whole class but as soon as I got sent to the nurse I burst in to tears like a big kid! It turned out I broke my foot in two places so really I had a good reason to cry!

What influences have gone into your sound recently?

I always find it hard to say exactly what style of music mines falls under as a lot of my songs sound quite different. I do love to experiment with different sounds and my most recent track ‘Kingdom Caller’ has a hint of blues throughout the song. The Harmonica played such a big part in the song which I think worked really well. Recently I have been listening to a lot of Larkin Poe which I think inspired me to have some blues in my last song. I think Larkin Poe are amazing- they have such strong harmonies and the slide guitar that Megan does is just unreal!

What are you currently working on?

I have been busy writing new songs over the past few months so I’m looking forward to getting back into the studio to get some new material recorded. I was in the studio recently recording a song I have not long written and it was so exciting hearing how it has developed. I can’t wait to get the song out there!

What are your plans for 2021?

Obviously under the current circumstances with the virus etc no one is sure exactly when live music can make a proper return. I do have festivals and gigs booked in for 2021 however we’ll just need to keep our fingers crossed that live music makes a return soon and these can go ahead. In the meantime I will just continue to write and record and get as much of my music out there as possible!

Any top tips for getting through this difficult time?

I have personally been using this difficult time to be a bit more creative and write more songs. It’s a horrible time for everyone and emotions are obviously a lot higher than they normally would be- I always find writing/singing a good way of letting my emotions out. I would encourage anyone to try and let their emotions escape rather than bottling everything up which unfortunately a lot of people do- I’m also guilty of that at times! It’s healthy for your mind and body to speak about things whether it’s with friends, family or even support groups etc. It’s a difficult time for everyone and we’ve all just got to stick together and try our best to keep each other going!
