“Gresham Street is about finding happiness in simplicity at a pretty bleak time in my life,” says May Rosa of her latest pop-styled offering.
Drawing on her love for 80’s-esque production and camp, theatrical performers, the dramatic soundscape of ‘Gresham Street’ transports us to a time and place wherein May Rosa’s life was set adrift.
“I had just broken up with someone, was very disillusioned and had abruptly left my life in London, moving back to my hometown of Belfast where I didn’t know anyone anymore and had no idea what my next steps were. I had no money, no job and was completely lost. The song is about feeling content and free in being with someone regardless of the situation. I spent a lot of time in a dilapidated building where his art studio was – it was grim but I was really happy.”
This certainly is a message that we all should be taking to heart right now in the year that didn’t work out for anyone, but where ever you can find the light, you should appreciate that. One such bright spot is all the great new music we’ve heard so far this year, just like the track you’ll find streaming below.
