Back in April, we introduced you to Ethiopian-Canadian artist Emanuel, whose single ‘Need You’ was supported by none other than OBE recipient Idris Elba, who created the heartwarming visuals.
Now, Emanuel has dropped his landmark EP, Session 1: Disillusion, which is from his extended project, ALT THERAPY. From this first installment, we’re inextricably drawn to the EP’s third track ‘Addiction’. It’s an honest depiction of addiction in all its form, whether that be to love, drugs, success, or other habits that have a short-term quick fix, but the results are not always so long lasting. The track itself is the dreamiest of alternative RnB reminiscent of Frank Ocean or Kevin Abstract.
With plenty more to come this year, Emanuel provides further insight into his ALT THERAPY project:
“Alt Therapy. It represents so many things. It is healing. Healing for those things in the past that would have us in bondage, in depression, in sadness. Those voices that told us we weren’t important. It’s gratification for the yearning in our hearts to do something great for the people of this world.”
