Bi-coastal electronic duo Drinker explore the search for empowerment within modern society on ‘Something I Want’. Glitchy, stuttered percussion puts the listener on edge, with off-kilter guitar lines and fizzed synths providing polyrhythmic dynamism. The vocals puncture an already elaborate production, with appropriately self-reflective lyrics. As the band note, “Routinely we live with a casual disregard for our health and a lustful relationship to our vices and impulses. As the messaging from corporate influencers in society gets more and more invasive, the chokehold on who we are gets tighter and our sense of what we want becomes blurred.”
“We wanted to create a visually diverse and bold message with the video for “Something I Want” and enlisted the help of NY based LGBTQ focused film maker Tyler Byrnes. With the implementation of stop motion animation and found footage, we aimed for a stark and surreal aesthetic to paint America’s multi-generational story of consumerism.” – Drinker
