Hey Gabriella, Could you tell our readers something about yourself that they might not find out otherwise?
My feet are size two it’s almost impossible to get decent shoes and my all time dream is to duet with Chris Martin.
What are your musical influences?
Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, Will Heard. Anything soul influenced, old school R&B.
How would you describe the sound you’ve crafted over your last few releases?
Old school R&B-pop, but a soul vocal is so important.
Where are you based?
I was brought up in Kent, I work all over London.
How does your city impact your music?
Only London has really impacted my music, there isn’t really a ‘music scene’ where I’m from. There’s no producers I’ve worked with in Kent, but a few musicians I have. The only thing musically good about where I live is down the road there’s greenery and rural space, which I can appreciate too. There’s a lot of peace, which is good for writing!
What does Old Mistake draw upon thematically?
It’s the scenario I’m sure most people have experienced of bumping into an ex-boyfriend, or friend. Someone who once meant a great deal to you, and that moment where you might be considering reigniting the flame, or just reminiscing, remembering quickly they were an old mistake. It’s a situation that shouldn’t be revisited
What is your songwriting process?
It varies on who I’m working with, who’s in the room. Everyone prefers different ways. If a certain concept or just a phrase is playing on my mind, I will try and write a song about that purely based on that idea. Other times I like vibing with a producer from scratch and writing about what’s on my mind at the time.
Did the track evolve significantly in the studio from the original demo?
‘Old Mistake’ was a concept I hadn’t written about before. I’ve written about relationships, but not the actual feeling of bumping into a person I had a history with. We actually only had one session on the song, it was quick, apart from the odd tweaking that needed to be done. I think it’s a very relatable topic, so it just came naturally. A friend who I write with a lot, Pippa, came to the session later on… she could relate, so together we tied up any loose ends.
What do fans have to look forward to over the next few months?
I have more 3/4 more singles coming out over the next few months which I’m really excited for. Nothing is ever set in stone and as an artist I change my mind a lot, but I have a very good idea of what I’ll be releasing. There will also be an EP and I have a good idea of what songs will be on that too, so I feel ready and I can’t wait!
