Chatterbox: Gia Koka talks to us about puppies, freedom from restraint, untouched demos and ‘Trippin’

Hey Gia, thanks for chatting to us. Could you tell our readers something about yourself that they might not find out otherwise?

I love frenching with puppies.

Do you see yourself as a writer first, or an artist?

I don’t see the difference anymore. I just try to make dope music everyday and whoever channels it the best – gets it. I see myself as a music maker, a businesswoman & a motherfucking life lover guru.

How would you describe the sound you’ve crafted over your last few releases?

The sound thing has also become such a vague term to me, because I’m always 100% in the moment when I’m in the studio. And it all reflects where I’m at energy wise. And I dont really want to restrain myself from doing what I want anymore. So my sound could be hiphop one day & 80’s band pop the other. As a vocalist I do have a lil thing going I guess and it’s always a lil’ moany & the lyrics are 80% of the time about love, addiction & wanting to be free.

What does the new single draw upon?

Just being insanely in love, not thinking clearly because of it. I’m such a junkie for that feeling, it’s stupid.

Did it evolve significantly in the studio from the original demo?

Not at all actually. I’m finding out more & more that you shouldn’t touch demos too much because usually theyre the most authentic version of that certain vibe. So nowadays I try to finish everything in that first moment. It’s like relationships. You fall in love with someone in their free state and that shouldnt be touched or owned cause you’re only gonna fuck up the magic.

Is it part of a larger project, an EP or Album?

Everything I do is a part of a way larger plan, but you’re just gonna have to wait & see

What do fans have to look forward to over the next few months?

Just music, music, music & awesome videos. Meanwhile, I’m in the studio eveyday and travelling the world making the larger plan happen. šŸ™‚
