KING is one of the most exciting emerging artists to come out of the Scandi-Pop world in the last few years. Hey music is an exciting combination of effervescent upbeat productions and her laid-back, yet energetic, vocal tone. KING has just released her new single ‘Poetry’ – we talked to her about how it came about and how she feels her sound has developed.
Hey KING, thanks for taking the time to chat to us. Could you tell our readers something they might not otherwise find out about you?
I’m working on making a Cyndi Lauper cover. That’s something almost nobody knows. But now you do!
We’ve been on board since Hello Hello, how do you feel your sound has developed since then?
I feel like it has developed in that way that I’ve explored different sides of my sound, which has helped me grow as an artist. I’ve spent most of this year in Stockholm and Los Angeles working with different writers and producers which has been really inspiring and I can’t wait for you guys to hear some of the things that we’ve been working on.
How did the new single come about?
I did this song with Marcus Borrman (who also produced Promise and Hello Hello) in Stockholm. I told him that I didn’t want to do anything under 100 BPM – which I tell almost every producer I work with. This song was super easy for me to write: I think it took less than an hour. When I heard the beat I immediately got the vibe and the words in my head. Of course I spent a lot of hours working on the track after the first demo.
But the first draft just came to me. Especially the first lines of the chorus, “I’m the poet, you’re my poetry”, where I’m reflecting over my life and concluding that I’m the only one in charge of the outcome. That is my favorite part of the song and also the reason that this song is so special to me.
You’re also a dancer, is that something you want to bring to your live shows? That energy?
Yes I really want to bring my dancing into my live shows. Personally I love when artists bring dancing into their shows – it really takes the show to the next level. It adds another level of expression to the show that an instrument or voice can’t give.
What’s been your 2017 highlight?
Releasing ‘Only U’ was really one of the highlights of 2017 because I had been working on that track FOREVER. And finally we locked it down and it was ready to go. And working with Steve Glashier – who did the Only U video – was also a big highlight of 2017 as he is amazing to work with and has great taste. I will definitely do a video with him again soon.
What are you most looking forward to in 2018?
I’m looking forward to releasing my album and to show everyone more different sides of myself as an artist.
What can KING fans keep an eye out for over the next few months?
Keep an eye on the Poetry video which will be dropping any day now. And the Cyndi Lauper cover if it turns out good. And I’m also working my next official single!
