Young & Sick impresses on self-reflective new record ‘Ojai’

Young & Sick is the project of Dutch-born Nick van Hofwegen, who now resides in Los Angeles. The songwriter has also designed artwork for the like of Maroon 5, Foster The People and Mikky Ekko. His new record was written on a visit to Ojai, California and is a reflection on the stresses and pressures that a person can put on themselves. It’s a well crafted piece of alt-R&B with soaring melodies, groove-laden production and dynamic percussive elements.

“I was staying at a hotel there called The Rancho. I just had a few drinks and I was in the sun, and I just let a very apparent feeling hit myself, hit me. I got to make a song about taking too much on your plate and how that affects you and how you can have, like, a micro-meltdown because you’ve put too much on yourself.” – Nick van Hofwegen / Young & Sick
