Chatterbox: Haides

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

My Name is Callum or Haides. I am from a town called Purley which is about a 20 minute train ride from central London and I have lived there for 14 years. Growing up I was very fortunate to be part of a family that was very supportive and encouraging for my aspirations whether they were little or small but from around 13 years old I loved everything about music.

My parents would play a lot of classic disco and house tracks that was the soundtrack to there teen years and twenties and that music really resonated within me and hasn’t left since. Like most people my age who make electronic music I was inspired by Tiesto. I watched endless videos on youtube of him Playing DJ sets and doing interviews and I just wanted to be him. So I saved up birthday and Christmas money as you do as a 13 year old and I bought a Gemini DJ mixer with CD players. After that it was straight into Fruity Loops demo trying to make the same music that I was playing. After I left school and finished my A Levels I decided to just go for it and try and make this dream come true.

Where did the new single come from?

Creating the instrumental for Faith was quite fun because I slowed down the tempo to what I usually produce at and gave it more structure for a vocal. Most importantly I wanted a good balance between the verse and chorus because I like using a strong synth lead in the chorus of my songs which you can here throughout the EP and to also have a gentle verse to let the vocal breathe and take centre stage.

Once I was happy with the instrumental my manager and I had a look round for someone to write to it. She then sent me a link to Adam’s soundcloud and I really loved the tone of his voice and thought it would be really cool to have him on the song because you don’t have too many artists with his low range that sound so strong and can deliver. We had a little back and forth on email discussing the song and direction for it and he did a great job.

Is there more content in the pipeline?

I am happy to say that there is. I have a remix for Elephante coming out this month for his new single “Troubled” and I am also in the middle of finishing a summer EP which takes the Haides sound to a new place and I am really excited about releasing it. So keep your ears and eyes peeled for that!

What’s on the horizon for you?

One thing is for sure and that is I will keep releasing new music and collaborating with more artists. I also want to start playing some shows soon and start branching out into new creative projects
