Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
Hey, my name is Lauran Hibberd. I’m 19 years old, and I’m currently living on the Isle of Wight. I’m a folk/pop inspired Singer/Songwriter, and I’m just about to release my debut EP! I’m a huge fan of artists like Feist, Laura Marling, Daughter, Billie Marten etc.
Where did the new single come from?
The new single ‘Favourite Shade of Blue’ was written late last year, the song is about celebrating the simplicity of youth. It treats blue as an emotion, before conveying it as a colour and proves the merit in both. I tend to draw inspiration from people around me when I write and in this case I wrote this song about a girl I used to work with.
I thought it would be the perfect trademark single for the debut EP. And also, the perfect name for the EP.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
Definitely! My debut EP is due for release on the 12th May, it features 5 brand new tracks. They are all so different, yet they all seem to fit together and reiterate the same message. For me, the EP demonstrates the happiness that comes with sadness. It signifies the purity that comes with youth, and how it slowly disappears into the unavoidable…(love, loss and all that falls in-between)”.
EP Track Listing:
‘Come On Home’
‘Old Head Young Shoulders’
‘Favourite Shade Of Blue’
‘You Were Like Home To Me’
‘Bricks & Mortar’
The EP was recorded at Studio Humbug in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight, the tracks were produced and engineered by Boe Weaver (Jim & Rob Homes) and features Rupert Brown (Drums) and Chris Newnham (Guitar).
What’s on the horizon for you?
Lots of gigs! I’m playing at some great festivals this year including Isle of Wight and Bestival and I’m also hoping to head out on a south coast university tour! I also have the video for the latest single coming out very soon, as well as some more live footage of the rest of the EP. I’ll be heading back into the studio in August, to record more material. So lots of exciting stuff. Keep an eye out for the EP release, and thanks for chatting to me.
