Chatterbox: Darrell Simms

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m from Florida, Broward originally. I moved to Sweden at the age of 8 with my mother and sister. I spent the majority of my childhood there. I started doing music seriously senior year in high school and after that I returned to Florida for college. I couldnt focus on anything else besides music so a few months later, I decided to drop out and take the music thing seriously. A year later, I dropped my first real mixtape called “The First Blink”, songs on soundcloud and a few music videos on YouTube. Since then I have just been trying to push the content.

Where did the new single come from?

Well I grew up in Sweden for 9 years so I consider it second home to anything else. When I heard about the truck hijacking in Stockholm, it put me into dark place. One morning, I woke up and decided it was therapeutic to just spill on a track and tell people how I felt in the music. I wanted to speak on the paranoia of gun violence and raise self awareness about whats going on in our world today.

Is there more content im the pipeline

Of course. I have a song I am dropping at the end of this month called “Elements” which is going to be the main single for my project “Wilcox Ave”. Its going to be a different sound for me as oppose to the first tape I put out. The beats are bassier, there is no filter with my lyrics and I’m more confident in my delivery.

Whats on the horizon for you?

Well hopefully people keep listening to my music. The feedback has been incredible. Hopefully this new project shows growth and amasses an even wider fanbase. Let people know that I really can rap and im as diverse as any artist. It’s time for people to really see that.
