Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi, I’m Michael from Big Creature. We’re based in Melbourne, Australia and we make (usually) bright music with guitars, synthesisers and 80s inspired drum machines. The band started as a solo project in my home studio and then expanded and added members from there. This line-up (Ezekiel, Dan, Lachy & I) has been solid for over a year now and off the back of last year’s EP “Talk”, we’re excited to bring a bunch of brand new songs into the world in 2017.
Where did the new single come from?
“Just Kids” was born out of a groove idea like a lot of our songs are (in this case, inspired by Prince’s Linn Drum programming) and it just kinda evolved from there. I’ve been with my wife a long time so with the lyrics I was really trying to capture the feeling of young love and the escapism and elation that comes along with it with a sort of nostalgic viewpoint but also a ultimately a realisation that the feelings aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. It’s kind of an ode to a younger version of myself, before I had to really be an adult, and a desire for simpler times.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
Yeah absolutely! We’re going to be releasing a series of singles and videos over the course of 2017. We have a heap of demos we’re really excited about taking over the finish line so stay tuned!
What’s on the horizon for you?
Other than writing and recording new music, we really want to hone our live show and make people dance a lot in sweaty venues around Australia!
