On ‘Runaway’ Crispin Brooks collaborates with Shara Vallée and Willo for a fresh spin on a timeless story

Crispin Brooks joyfully brings together Caribbean and pop sounds in his newest single ‘Runaway’. Featuring longtime collaborators Willo and Shara Vallee (who is also his cousin), this track embraces the warmth, playfulness and sun-soaked vibes of a lifetime immersed in music. Crispin grew up around a wide array of Caribbean music, such as reggae, dancehall, soca, calypso, zouk, bouyon and kompas, while more global styles also didn’t escape his interest, primarily hip-hop, pop, R&B, dance, house and rock. Crispin has a wider taste in music than us, and that’s saying something! As you’ll hear in ‘Runaway’, many of those elements make their way in from the danceable beats to the catchy pop melodies to that island bwoy/gyal energy. It’s all brought together thanks to Willo’s intuitive production.

‘Runaway’ is complemented by a stunning music video, which follows a runaway bride who chooses freedom and happiness over a life that just isn’t right for her. Portrayed by Shara, her performance in the video is as natural and engaging as her vocals. However, that’s just one half of the story as it’s not only the bride who’s on the run, but also the groom. In this way, ‘Runaway’ is about the path we chosse together; it might not be conventional, but all that matters is the love we find along the way. This single is a reflection of the three musicians’ chemistry, as well as the strength of Crispin Brooks’ cinematic vision that started it all.
