Now that festival season has officially wrapped-up, it’s time to head back to the clubs and we have the perfect soundtrack for the dark and blurry early hours out on the dancefloor. ‘Tulips’ is the atmospheric and intimate chill-house track from Scottish musician, drummer and producer Brannen, who, despite just making his solo project debut with this release, actually has two decades of experience in the music industry. You can hear that deep understanding of making songs that stick in ‘Tulips’ through those subtly shifting textures, ethereal melodies and unmissable house grooves. The addition of a soulful vocal here also adds to the immersive listening experience, as though you’re being whispered to by a strobe-lit siren.

Brannen cites his influences as Ben Böhmer, Marsh, Lane 8, Yotto and Romain Garcia, and you can definitely hear those strong melodic-house threads in ‘Tulips’. Yet, he also imparts his own signature touches on the track, particularly in that addictive, pulsing beat and the 80s-inspired synth keys. As this cinematic single progresses, you can feel the heat rising, which is bound to pull listeners further and further into a dance-worthy embrace. Really, ‘Tulips’ is more than a club track, because you could easily listen to this while grinding away at work, on a late-night drive or just going about your day. It’s a laidback reminder to stop and smell the… tulips.
