Planetarium Sessions is a brand-new project coming out of Los Angeles’ creative hub that seeks to reframe the live performance experience through a unique blend of orchestral arrangements, hip-hop, R&B and, most intriguingly, astronomy. It takes that idea of peering down a telescope to discover celestial bodies out in the universe to the camera lens which can capture earth-bound stardom in the making. This time, that discerning turns to Blimes and Gab, an incredible pair of MCs who bring their grounded, relatable and self-assured style into an unmissable live performance of their latest single ‘Say That’.
Reimagined through Shawn Law Yone Gilad’s moving orchestral arrangement, ‘Say That’ is brought into a new light without losing any of the grit from Blimes and Gab’s original version. Those cinematic strings and earthy drumbeats add a gravitas to the rap duo’s magnetic delivery and unmistakable chemistry. San Francisco’s Blimes Brixton kicks off proceedings with her ice-cold articulation before handing the baton over to Seattle’s Gifted Gab who keeps the energy high. Their back-and-forth rapport is effortless yet razor-sharp. There’s also a real magic conjured up when the pair combine forces, such as on the track’s central lyric, “I can hear ’em talking where the base at, do it with your chest, if you’re gonna say that.” This is a fantastic debut installment for Planetarium Sessions and we can’t wait to see which up-and-coming stars they showcase next.
