Hey VÆB, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. Could you tell us a little known fact about yourself?
Yo wassup! A great honour! Let me tell you a crazy fact about us! We are known for wearing comically large sunglasses but inside of Hálfdáns glasses he has duck-taped regular glasses underneath because he is literally blind
The phrase “Þetta reddast (it will be okay)” is such a deep-rooted part of Icelandic identity. Why did you feel like 2026 was the right time to turn this specific phrase into a pop anthem?
We think its just the only way to start the year, all icelanders have been sayin this for decades and its about time people outside of iceland learn about the beauty of þetta reddast.
The world has embraced Danish hygge and Swedish lagom. Do you see this song as your way of exporting the Icelandic “don’t worry, it’ll fix itself” lifestyle to the rest of the world?
100% no question! Even though people may not know how to pronounce it. But this phrase is just perfect for almost any situation you find yourself in.
At what point in the recording process did you realise that you’d created a banger?
As soon as we had made that melody for the violin it just clicked and we wrote the whole song around that. And also we thought the song sounded very good after our first studio session and that is usually a sign of a banger incoming!
What was the collaborative energy like in the studio for this track compared to your earlier tracks?
The original version of the song consisted of Matti doing the production and Hálfdán writing and singing the verses. we took that version to our friend and producer Ingi Bauer and he took it to the next level, that is how we make most of our songs, we wrote the song very quickly and we find the songs that just come naturaly are usualy the best ones.
The music video for ‘ÞETTA REDDAST’ has a very distinct aesthetic, so how much of the VÆBOUT universe is planned and how much of it is spontaneous improvisation?
It’s about 50/50. There’s definitely a visual world behind VÆBOUT, but once we are on location or in a moment, we allow chaos. Some of the best moments come from last minute decisions or someone saying “what if we just try this?”
What’s next for you?
Going on a European tour next month and are focused on making it a crazy memorable show for everyone that shows up! Than of course we got new music on the way as well as our Album VÆBOUT thanks for having us
