R&B songwriter Yoni shares bittersweet new single ‘Climate’

Eritrean-American artist Yoni first appeared on our radar late last year with his slow-burning single ‘Runaway’. Now, this confident R&B crooner has returned with ‘Climate’, another display of his seemingly effortless blend of West Coast hip-hop, alternative R&B and laid-back soul. With production helmed by DOMSUPNEXT, this track is built around a luxurious piano melody and driving 808s, which forms the perfect backdrop for Yoni’s smooth vocal delivery as he exposes a rare emotional vulnerability.

Sitting between and expansive production and intimate songwriting, ‘Climate’ takes the listener into the core of heartache, longing and acceptance. Lyrics like “when I see that look in your eyes, there’s a change in the climate,” reveal that subtle change in a relationship when the end is near. While Yoni’s tone is melancholic, there’s a romantic atmosphere that also shows that our protagonist is choosing to cherish these final moments of love and connection. Yoni’s narrative is so evidently relatable, honest and open, yet it’s not cliché either; this is sophisticated, modern R&B at its finest.
