Hey Makanduk, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. Could you tell us a little known fact about yourself?
Thanks for having me, i mean maybe a known fact about myself is that I’m a really huge nerd, love everything about sci fi. But what people don’t know is that I’m also non fiction nerd too, real life sciences, I’m a huge huge lover of astronomy and astrophysics.
You’ve just released your EP, Ruined, so can you tell us about the particular sci-fi scenario that inspired the record?
Not going to lie, Henry Cavil‘s Superman did a little bit of inspiration. His first flight scene kinda helped push my imagination for crazy and patience, Reason just kinda came to me.
What does that word “ruined” mean to you in the context of this project?
Ruined kind of just places a darker, dramatic tone for the EP. I’ve always had a love for making deep dark music but I feel like this is particularly different in a new direction for me. I’ve Ruined my old ways in a direction for the new.
How do you balance darker, moodier tones with groove and energy in your tracks to evoke feelings of nostalgia, imagination, and escapism?
The tones just mold with the way I use my imagination. I can’t speak for anyone else but, I usually picture something dramatic in my head, a fight scene one man army, or a young Superman for example taking flight for the first time. It’s a little bit strange, but I assure you if you think of a scene of this tone that aligns perfectly with the drop of these tracks you’d maybe the way I make my visions a little bit better. The more dramatic the scene, the harsher, deeper and darker the tones.
You recorded Ruined between Sydney and Germany using fairly minimal gear, so how did those two environments and the equipment influence the sound of the EP?
You can make good music anywhere really. For me it’s more the feeling of comfort it brings me, I’m able to put my head down and work in my own bubble, and not worry about anything outside of it. Free to create and let imagination run wild. A comfortable, homey environment is the perfect concoction for me to make music at the best of my ability.
What was the most challenging aspect of producing Ruined, and what did you learn through that process?
Probably mixing with all of the distortion hahaha, I’ve learned a lot more about my mixing process with this one. But I feel like I’m finding more of my sound, gripping my place in the world of House music.
What’s next for you?
I’ve got a track lined up that I’ve been working on for a few weeks, I’ll release that in a month or so. But I’m also currently working on an album. It’s been in the works for a while and it’s a different, softer sound. I’ve got a name for it already but it won’t be out for a while.
