Chatterbox: ANASTÁZIE chats musical inspirations, soul-led songwriting, and empowerment

Hey ANASTÁZIE, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. Could you tell us a little known fact about yourself?

Hello, thank you very much for this opportunity! I think a little known fact about myself is that I’m actually a professional musician by my education and also trained in piano!

What inspired you to create the declaration of self-determination in the form of your new single ‘Kiss & Let Go’?

Many things inspire me to be honest, in this case, it was just a feeling that I’ve had and the beat that my producer The Musa made. Combination of those two aspects created “Kiss & Let go”. As soon as I’ve heard the beat, I created a melody and wrote lyrics but it definitely helped that I was feeling empowered by the vibe of my record itself.

This is a confident blend of R&B smoothness, afrobeat grooves and jazz flourishes, so who are your musical inspirations?

I have many musical inspirations, mostly they are from jazz because that’s a genre that’s been a part of my life for a very long time. I love Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles. I also love modern music and experimental interpretations, I admire Raye, Amy Winehouse vocally and many more.

Do you think your Czech and Armenian roots, as well as London base, influence the way your approach songwriting?

I think that all of the aspects of my background influence my songwriting. My songwriting is my life experience, everything I’ve been through, everything I’ve felt and everything that affected me. I always try to be real and raw with what I write because I feel like even though it’s a very vulnerable position to be in, people can relate to it more.

How do you ensure that a sense of intimacy, sensuality and playfulness are brought into your sound?

I feel like that it’s very much rooted within my sound. The way I approach music vocally is quite sensual and intimate and the way I approach lyrical aspect of my music is playful and real. So I would say that the combination of everything makes it so enjoyable to both me and my listeners. I love sensual beats and Melodie’s that bring something new to the sound.

What message do you hope that your listeners will take away from ‘Kiss & Let Go’?

If I think about the feelings of my listeners, I honestly would love for them to enjoy my record, to have fun with it, to relate to it and dance as soon as they hear it. If we talk about the message, that’s a much deeper lever for me, because “kiss & let go” is about empowerment, freedom and youthfulness and because it’s coming from a young woman, I think it’s a quite bold and real statement, so it’s definitely very important for me that my listeners will see it in that way too.

What’s next for the project?

I have a few gigs planned both in London and Prague, which I’m so excited about. And I will have new records coming out, maybe even a collaborative EP next year and many amazing projects are in the making already!
